A new diner opened in Santa Lucia East Grand Mall here in the Philippines. Off the bat, I don’t think it has what you’d call the American taste, but if you want cheap food that fills the belly, you might want to give this a try.
As you can see my kids were having so much fun there. Kidding, it was hilarious when we went there.
We were laughing our asses off because the diner was named “America’s Steaks” and the in-house music first blared out two women talking about urine sickness, polyps in the nostrils and generally diseases in Tagalog. Things you’d normally like to hear when you eat. Then during the start of our meal they switched it to a station playing “ancient” Tagalog music. It was an interesting experience to say the least.
This was the actual meal. We took the cheapest one worth Php99 (approximately US $2.30). An ample serving of Salisbury steak, unlimited rice, breaded onion rings, gravy and soup. Unfortunately only my son and daughter took the extra rice. The soup and gravy leaves a lot to be desired. The iced tea was automatically bottomless worth Php25 each glass (US $0.58). If you want just a regular sized single drink, order the soda. All in all, it wasn’t bad for something less than 100. There is also an option to get a free drink but no extra rice, which is fine because I promise you with just the original serving you’d feel you ate cement mix, though better tasting than that, of course.
